david pryde (actra)
David Pryde is a Montreal comic whose humor is often called “cerebral”, a word which he hasn’t looked up but assumes means “hilarious”. He has performed comedy in the USA, the U.K., and Australia, plus a whole lot of stuff in Canada, including the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and numerous Just for Laughs TV broadcasts, most recently the Montreal: An Intervention gala celebrating the city’s 375th anniversary. He has had his own special on CTV’s Comedy Now, and is a regular on CBC’s The Debaters in both its radio and television incarnations. He’s received four Canadian Comedy Award nominations, three for Best Male Stand-Up and one for Best Newcomer (not in that order), and his one-man show, David Pryde’s Tete Offensive, received a Frankie Award nomination for Best English Comedy at the St. Ambroise Fringe Festival.
Other career highlights include appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on their “Pass the Mic” segment. He had a small role with Paul Giamatti in the film Barney’s Version and a larger role on the IFC mini-series The Festival. David’s appeared in several commercials, notably a successful string of ads for Standard Life which led to his first and heretofore only time being “spoofed” on the Royal Canadian Air Farce.
David is a versatile writer, having contributed to (and gotten paid by) This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Onion, and the Just for Laughs XXX Ultimate Nasty Show where he wrote material for Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.
Since 2011 he has been a regular contributor to CBC Radio One’s, The Debaters, now in its 11th season, with an audience compiled of hundreds of thousands of listeners. David has written for several Sirius XM productions, including Laugh Attack and DJ Celebrity, hosted by Gemini-award winning comedian, Shaun Majumder. He also worked as a writer for the IFC comedy series, The Business.
David currently lives with his beautiful Australian wife, two children, two cats and his two stand-up CDs, “Googly” and “Sight Gags”, and would not part with them for anything (except the CDs, currently for sale on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby).
